Alex Schlopy - Not Schlopy at All Hot

Alex SchlopyAt the ripe age of 18, Alex Schlopy is already making a name for himself. Recently picked up by Oakley for sponsorship, this professional skier is turning heads on the slopestyle competitions. In his first season competing, he finished 5th at the Dew Tour in Mount Snow, Vermont and 8th at the Winter X Games Europe in 2010.

Schlopy is the son of two-time Olympian and three-time World Cup downhill winner, Holly Flanders. Skiing apparently runs in the genes, but Alex sticks to the slopestyle course rather than the speed course.

Native of Park City, Utah, Schlopy still resides there and enjoys skateboarding and dirt biking in the offseason. His latest project is filming with Matchstick Productions which he says should be out in the fall.

Schlopy stunned and amazed the snowsports world by topping reigning champ, Bobby Brown, in the Big Air competition and taking gold at the Winter X Games 2011. He earned huge points by doing a trick he had never done prior to that night.

The following week, Schlopy won gold in slopestyle at the 2011 FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships in Deer Valley, Utah. Fitting that it was on his home turf but this rookie came out to prove himself and that’s exactly what he did.

Barely coming down from the high of winning back-to-back gold medals, Schlopy kept his momentum going and took 1st place in slopestyle at the Winter Dew Tour in Snowbasin, Utah. He’s got an arsenal of tricks and isn’t afraid to try anything. He ended up on both the Winter X Games and Dew Tour podium with fellow Park City, Utah native and best friend Joss Christensen.

Schlopy is currently sponsored by Nordica, Monster and Oakley but no doubt there will certainly be more promoters in his future. His jumps are tight, aerials are precise and his passion is clear through his style. A rookie with two golds and a 1st place in the Winter Dew Tour… it’s safe to say there is much, much more to come.
