Athlete Profile: Gretchen Bleiler Hot

Gretchen_BleilerNot only is Gretchen Bleiler one of female snowboarding’s best talents, but her stunning looks and killer personality make her one of the darlings in the sport.

But this is not an Anna Kournikova type story – a lot of looks and no results in competition – mostly because Bleiler is one of the most decorated female snowboarders and one of the sport’s true icons.

The girl born in 1981 in Akron, Ohio, now makes her home in the winter sport mecca of Aspen – the perfect place for honing her skill.

And that Bleiler has done, as evidenced by the numerous medals and podiums she’s accumulated throughout her career.

Bleiler holds an impressive four Gold Medals (2003, 2005, 2008, 2010) and one Silver medal (2007) in the X Games Superpipe event and took the Silver Medal in 2006 Torino Olympic Half pipe contest. Bleiler’s distinguished resume also includes the following titles: 2008 Dew Tour Champion, first place at the 2007 Grand Prix in Tamarack, Switzerland, two FIS World Cup first place finishes, the 2006 Overall Grand Prix Champion, 2005 US Open Halfpipe Champion.

While those accomplishments are incredible, Bleiler’s best year actually came in 2003 when she won X Games gold, took the 2003 US Open title and won the Overall Grand Prix title – all the while winning eight straight events that season.

Not only do Bleiler’s talents head up the competition, but her hot looks are the focus of media outlets everywhere. Bleiler has featured in Maxim, FHM, Men’s Fitness and the cover of ESPN Magazine in June 2008.

The list of public speaking engagements is extensive, while Bleiler’s face has been all over television – appearing on every talk show imaginable, guest hosting on FUEL TV and contributing to ESPN’s coverage of the X Games on numerous occasions.

Bleiler is certainly one of the most transcendent figures in the sport, but this midwestern girl knows her roots are in the Earth. She devotes much of her limited off time being active in the environmental movement with organizations like the Aspen Snowmass Save Snow Campaign and Stopglobalwarming.org.
