Marble Mountain, Canada Hot

marble_mountainCanada offers some excellent options for the skier who finds him or herself north of the border. One of the best options in Atlantic Canada is Marble Mountain in Newfoundland. This well-kept secret offers beautiful scenery, 36 runs and luxurious accommodations at a reasonable price.

The resort consists of 225 skiable acres and a top elevation of 1,791 feet. The resort puts the whole mountain to good use—the base of Marble Mountain is 33 ft above sea level.  While the elevation of Marble Mountain doesn’t compare with many top Ski Resorts in the US, they boast a three-mile run, longer than many options in the northern Rockies. The nearest city, Corner Brook, is considered the snowiest city in Canada and the resort gets almost 200 inches of fresh powder dumped on it each year.

Marble Mountain offers a snow school for first time skiers/snowboarders and for veterans looking to perfect their skills. These services are offered at great prices. For only $49.50 (Less than a lift ticket at many US resorts) you can get a “Discover Skiing” or “Discover Snowboarding” package. This bundled offer includes a 90-minute group lesson, ski/snowboard rental and a lift ticket. Private lessons and a kid oriented snow camp are also available. The resort recently opened a terrain park with seven mogul runs and two glade runs.

The most convenient lodging is located at the resort in the Marble Villa. The Villa is a grouping of rentable condominiums. For $129-$149 you can get a studio apartment with a supplemental kitchen. Larger rentals are also available. $229-$259 will get you a two-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen and a fireplace. For those that don’t mind driving to the slopes, Corner Brook (a 15-20 minute drive) offers many more hotel and motel options.
