Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort, California Hot

northstar-at-tahoe_backsideNorthstar-At-Tahoe on the west coastAs a member of the Vail Resorts family, Northstar-at-Tahoe epitomizes class. With 170 guest rooms and 25 Club fractional ownership units, The Ritz-Carlton at Northstar-at-Tahoe is the center of attention. Several other lodging options are available in the Village-at-Northstar centered around a 9,000 square foot ice rink, as well.

As for the mountain, Northstar has over 3000 skiable acres covered in an average 350 inches of snow per year. If at any point there isn't enough snow, Northstar has a 50% (largest system in N. Lake Tahoe) snowmaking system. With 93 trails to swish down, Northstar's tracked out terrain is predominantly intermediate. About 60% is middle of the road with 13% beginner and 27% advanced. But the experts shouldn't stray. Sawtooth Range and Lookout Mountain make up over 750 acres of backcountry and expert terrain. The Backside offers nine one-mile long expert runs, as well.

Don't do open space? There are six parks and a pipeline to warm you up before you hit the Superpipe. Northstar-at-Tahoe is home to a few Burton and Snow Park Technologies built terrain parks. The Burton Progression Park allows you to leave the intimidation at home and check out all kinds of easy to expert kickers, rails, jumps, etc.

After mastering that park, head over to The Stash - a place where skiers and riders can improve their all-mountain skills in a naturally fun environment. Featuring road jumps, jibs and tree runs all created with wood logs and other natural materials, The Stash is designed for park riding with a big mountain feel. Pinball, Mooshine, The DC Straits and Lil Stash are also available for the skier/boarder's delight.

Take a day off from the downhill and head to the 1400 square foot Cross-Country, Telemark + Snowshoe Center. Whether you want to work up a sweat or glide through the trees and stop at the warming hut for hot chocolate, Northstar-at-Tahoe offers quite the experience on the flatter lands. For the ultimate push, take a private lesson on the Biathlon course. Learn to shoot a gun while cross-country skiing through breath-taking terrain as the Olympians have done for over 50 years.
