Cloudmont Ski Area , Alabama Hot

cloudmontLocated in the heart of Dixie, Cloudmont Ski Resort in Northeast Alabama is a unique skiing destination in a region not previously known for the sport, or snow in general. In fact, Cloudmont is in its 41st year of operation, providing skiing to the south since 1970. The resort offers two 1,000-foot runs, one beginner and one intermediate for those seeking a ski experience in an unlikely location.

The region receives a paltry 12-inches of snow each year, thus when temperatures dip below 28 degrees, Cloudmont dusts off the equipment to cover the slopes with artificial snow. That snow base is enough to combat the warm weather Alabama experiences in the winter, while providing a blanket for sparse precipitation to adhere easily. The two slopes are actually part of the Saddle Rock Golf Course that is open during the warmer months.

Cloudmont’s exclusivity as the only skiing option in the region lends itself to high lift prices when you consider the return offering. Adult prices range from $38-$50 (including rentals) for the morning session and $26-$32 for shortened and night sessions. Children, student and lift only specials are available as well.

Cloudmont is roughly a two-hour drive from both Atlanta and Birmingham and three hours from Nashville – perfectly situated in the middle of three major Southern populaces. Hotels, local lodging and chalets are all available on-site or in the surround area. Rentals and instruction is available for individuals and groups new to the world of skiing.
