Sundown Mountain, Iowa Hot

sundownmtnHidden in the cornfields of Iowa is Sundown Mountain, the largest of the three ski resorts in the state with 55 acres of skiable terrain. Sundown is unique amongst Midwestern slopes as ancient glaciers avoided leveling the resort’s region in Iowa. Sundown’s highest lift is taller than all lifts in Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota up to Duluth, and all but 2 in Wisconsin.

Sundown attracts those learning and developing their skiing ability and reaches out to non-skiers through different training programs, individual and group lessons. Sundown’s slopes are wide-open and gradual – the perfect conditions for beginner and intermediate skiers which make up most of the mountain’s cliental.

The resort does not ignore its more advanced skiers though, offering ski racing for all ages (including an adult league) along with a pretty proportionate number of advanced runs. Sundown’s terrain park is available for skiers and snowboarders looking to push the envelope during their visit.

Lift ticket prices vary from $15-$40 depending on age and the portion of the ski season – very affordable prices for those looking for slope enjoyment without the big ticket prices. There is full rental capacity for skiers and snowboarders at the resort, along with lessons, making it a full-service location in an unlikely spot.
