Mt. Eyak - Cordova, Alaska Hot

Mt. EyakLocated in Alaska, America’s last, great frontier is Mt. Eyak, a place referred to as “Alaska’s greatest ski resort”.

The moniker was most likely given to Mt. Eyak because it offers a stunning, no frills skiing and snowboarding experience in the unsullied Alaskan mountains. There are 30 trails, a majority of which are tailored for intermediate skiers and snowboarders, with an even distribution of runs for beginner and advanced skill levels.

The most interesting of Mt. Eyak’s attractions is the opportunity to heli-ski at the resort. For those bold and brash enough, Points North Heli-Adventures Inc. offers adventure in the Chugach Mountain Range where Mt. Eyak is located. While a heli-skiing trip is a once in a lifetime chance, it is not for anyone operating on a tight budget. Just one hour costs an individual $825 and that does not include lodging, gratuity and other fees associated.

Of special note, the single chairlift at Mt. Eyak is considered one of the oldest is North America. The lift was purchased from Sun Valley, Idaho after it serviced that area for more than 66 years.

Cordova, Alaska is a city located at the mouth of the Copper River at the head of Orca Inlet on the east side of Prince William Sound. The Chugach Mountain Range serves as a backdrop with the city of Cordova situated between the water and the mountains. The entire area is well known for it’s pristine backcountry ski slopes.
