Christie Mountain Resort, Wisconsin

With just 14 skiable acres, Christie Mountain in Northwest Wisconsin is one of the smallest of the state’s roughly 30 ski resorts. Despite its diminutive status, Christie serves as the quintessential local ski stop – perfect for families seeking an affordable outing, novices seeking to hone their skill and those seeking to squeeze in a few runs without the hassle of long distance travel.

Cloudmont Ski Area , Alabama

Located in the heart of Dixie, Cloudmont Ski Resort in Northeast Alabama is a unique skiing destination in a region not previously known for the sport, or snow in general. In fact, Cloudmont is in its 41st year of operation, providing skiing to the south since 1970. The resort offers two 1,000-foot runs, one beginner and one intermediate for those seeking a ski experience in an unlikely location.

Paoli Peaks, Indiana

The Hoosier State is more likely to conjure images of basketball rather than skiing, but those Midwesterners passionate for the slopes can get their fix at Paoli Peaks in Western Indiana. Snowfall amounts are quite low in the region, just north of Hoosier National Forest, but 100% snowmaking allows for completely open trails during the winter months.

Sundown Mountain, Iowa

Hidden in the cornfields of Iowa is Sundown Mountain, the largest of the three ski resorts in the state with 55 acres of skiable terrain. Sundown is unique amongst Midwestern slopes as ancient glaciers avoided leveling the resort’s region in Iowa. Sundown’s highest lift is taller than all lifts in Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota up to Duluth, and all but 2 in Wisconsin.

With 170 guest rooms and 25 Club fractional ownership units, The Ritz-Carlton at Northstar-at-Tahoe is the center of attention.
