Sustainable Slopes ReportKeeping Resorts Green with the Sustainable Slopes ProgramWith the release of the 10th Annual Sustainable Slopes Report, the ski industry’s progress towards implementing the Environmental Charter throughout the 2009-2010 season has been greatly successful. This Grant Program Generates $100,000 Worth of Environmental Funding and In-Kind Donations.

Various winter resorts were surveyed around the United States. The results from these surveys concluded that in fact these resorts are looking greener.

The reduction in solid waste, the conservation of water and energy, and the education of employees and guests with regards to environmental issues are all tell tale signs of this progression.

NSAA logoMt. Abram in Maine and Crested Butte in Colorado were awarded 10 SV10 high efficiency snowmaking guns. These snowmaking guns were generously donated by the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) supplier member Snow Economics, Inc., and HKD Snowmakers.

CLIF Bar & Co. and the Natural Resources Defense Council sponsored four cash donations, which were awarded to several different resorts. Alta Ski Area (UT) received an energy management and interpretive signage projects, An electric bike used for resort maintenance was received at Crested Butte (CO), water bottle refilling stations at Grand Targhee (WY); and a composting pilot project at Stevens Pass (WA).

It is important that guests at these resorts do their part in order to help keep the environment clean and green. By doing so, they make it possible for the resorts to be enjoyed by future generations.

Over 190 resorts are getting greener by the season through their endorsement of the Environmental Charter.

Throughout last winter, the Sustainable Slopes program focused on using and improving the Sustainable Slopes Grant Program.

None of this would be made possible without the generous donations of the various sponsors and partners
