It's Ladies Only at the Roxy Chicken Jam

Girls Only Roxy Chicken JamMammoth Mountain is the site of the 7th Annual Roxy Chicken Jam – a four-day snowboarding festival – scheduled to kick-off March 24 in the city of Mammoth Lakes, California.

Sorry dudes, this competition is for chicks only.

Started in 2004 by Roxy Apparel Brand, the Chicken Jam serves as the foremost, women’s only snowboarding competition held each year. After seven years of success and progression, the event now offers a long weekend worth of premier entertainment – both on-and-off the mountain.

Spectators will witness gravity-defying tricks during the halfpipe competition in Mammoth’s 22-foot tube and an amalgamation of speed, amplitude and skill on the slopestyle course.

While the snowboarding is reason enough to attend, fans will also be treated to a free concert starring the Grammy Award Winning British Electropop Band, La Roux – best known for their smash hit “Bulletproof”. Joining La Roux is fellow electronic artist, Trouble Andrew, also performing during the weekend’s festivities.

The Roxy Chicken Jam presents further offerings including a full sponsor village, Mascot Halfpipe Competition, athlete appearances and signings, along with special parties.

Special training sessions and tutelage will take place at Mammoth’s Stomping Grounds Evolution Park – utilizing its innovative Acrobag as a safe testing ground for new tricks.

A total purse of $50,000 is up for grabs with the top finisher in both the halfpipe and Slopestyle competitions receiving $15,000, while second place and third place earn $7,000 and $3,000 respectively.

Former winners include the United States’ Jamie Anderson and Australia’s Torah Bright, both of X-Games Gold Medal fame. According to Roxy, Bright is once again competing in 2011, seeking to defend her 2010 title against a rabble of the world’s greatest riders.

While the focus of the weekend is reserved for the ladies, male riders will take part in the “Cluck Off” Big Air Competition, seeking aerial supremacy and $1,000.

The Chickadee Jam, a feeder event for the main event, will take place for Canadian riders two weeks prior at Grouse Mountain, with the overall winner receiving $3,000 and an all expenses paid trip and qualifying spot to the Chicken Jam.
