Vail Announces EpicMix 2.0 Hot

20110318_emix.jpgVail Resorts has announced their plans for the second generation of popular social media sharing technology EpicMix.

EpicMix premiered during the 2010/2011 and allowed snowboarders and skiers the ability to merge their on-snow experience through social media platforms, including  290,000 guest posts to Facebook.

This time around, Vail Resorts announces a new way to share on EpicMix - photo sharing.

“Through EpicMix we’re allowing people to remember their vacation - and photos are one of the most critical ways to create and share those memories,” said Vail Resorts CEO, Rob Katz.

This announcement comes just as Vail stated that it will no longer contract with Sharp Shooter for its on-mountain photographs.

Vail Resorts intend to have some 200 professional photographers stationed throughout their six resorts (Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, Heavenly, and Northstar-at-Tahoe). Each photographer will be equipped with RF technology connected to the camera to immediately upload photos and match it with a specific EpicMix guest account.

“We want these photos to be shared online. That’s our whole goal,” said Katz. Guests are able to share information tracked by EpicMix to Facebook & Flickr,  as well as a slew of other social media sites. The second generation also allows guests to customize their message, a feature not available on the first EpicMix.

The second generation of Epix Mix will be released on November 4, 2011. The full photo version is expected to launch sometime in December.
