Wisp Resort, MarylandDespite filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, Maryland's only ski resort plans of open for the 2012 season on November 25th.

After Wisp Resort in McHenry, Maryland was unable to negotiate a modification to its $28.5 million loan with BB&T Bank, the ski resort filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in October.  Wisp's parent company, DC Development LLC, borrowed the money to acquire real estate sites and add a golf course to the resort near Deep Creek Lake prior to the 2008 financial crisis.

The company said that selling the ski resort would be unprofitable and exists only as an option of last resort if unable to gain additional investors or refinance their loan.

Wisp Resort touts 132 acres of ski area, which receives more than 100 inches in annual snow fall in addition to the powder provided by their energy efficient snow making system.
