Shaun White Signs with Vail Resorts

Vail Resorts announced that Shaun White has signed a multiyear deal with the mega company's six ski resorts on Tuesday. 

White will now call California's ‘Northstar at Tahoe’ his home mountain and even has plans to design his very own 22-foot halfpipe at the Tahoe-area ski resort.

Severest Snow in Decades Blasts New Zealand

While parts of the United States are seeing extreme temperatures in the 100s, New Zealand is experience an entirely different type of extreme. 

Parts of New Zealand are seeing its first snowfall in some 80 years as a "once in a lifetime" polar blast spreads across the Kiwi country.

As the Daily Mail is reporting, New Zealand plunged into darkness Monday as flights were ground, roads closed and mail deliveries cancelled. 

Wellington, which rarely gets snow, is experience snow levels it hasn’t seen since the 1970s. Even further to the south, Auckland is experiencing its first snowfall for about 80 years. Meteorologists are describing the historic change in weather as a "once in many decades event".

Still, it doesn’t appear that many citizens seem to care all that much.People took to the streets to play and take photos of the winter wonderland as for many it was the first time they had seen snow in the area.

"Looking at oncoming drivers and seeing their smiles as we were fascinated by this unusual occurrence - it was truly delightful to see, yet all too short," Auckland resident Kevin Prohl is quoted as saying by the New Zealand Herald.

The cold snap is expected to last several days, so now would be as good a time as any to break out your skiis and snowboards!

Robert Vietze Kicked off Ski Team

An 18-year-old skiier  was dismissed from the U.S. Ski Team's for allegedly getting drunk and urinating on a young passenger aboard a Jet Blue red-eye flight.

Robert “Sandy” Vietze, of Warren, Vt., was detained at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport on Wednesday morning after his flight for allegedly urinating on an 11-year-old girl.

2011 Burton New Zealand Open Gets Underway

Snowboarders from around the globe hit the slopes Tuesday, as the first day of the 2011 Burton New Zealand Open took off in style.

The New Zealand Open, now in its ninth year, is the first major event for halfpipe and slopestyle of the 2011/12 TTR season.
