Product Review: Patagonia Capilene Baselayers Hot

PatagoniaPatagonia, one the industry’s leading outfitters for the outdoor lifestyle, recently introduced its new line of Capilene Baselayers that offer perfect versatility for round-the-year activity.

The key feature of the Capilene Line is that it comes in four different models, varying in weight, warmth, moisture wicking, stretch, durability and softness. Model names are very simple, from Capilene 1-4, but the technology behind the items is not.

Each of the items comes with varied looks and can be purchased in a t-shirt, tank top, long sleeve shirt, zipneck, and boxer briefs, shorts and bottoms. Prices range from $25 for the tank up to $99 for the zipneck jacket.

Each of the baselayers is perfect for anything involving the snow as they are comfortable and breathable while serving as the perfect addition to a layered ensemble for optimal warmth and performance.

Here is a breakdown and the specifications behind each of the four models:

Capilene 1 (Silkweight): Designed for endurance activities in warm temperatures. Highly breathable, fast drying and keeps the wearer dry and cool in warm temperatures. Can be worn on its own or under layers in cooler temperatures.

Capilene 2 (Lightweight): The most breathable synthetic baselayer keeps the wearer dry and comfortable. Designed for endurance activities in warm to moderate temperatures and ideal for layering. The lightweight fabric features an open knit that invites airflow and provides excellent wicking. It’s quick-wicking, fast-drying and easy to care for.

Capilene 3 (Midweight): Considered the most versatile synthetic baselayer to keep a person dry and warm. Designed for endurance activities in cool to cold temperatures. It’s the fastest wicking of Patagonia’s Capilene weight and disperses moisture 38% faster than previous Capilene Midweights and dries 12% faster.

Capilene 4 (Expedition Weight): Patagonia’s warmest synthetic baselayer keeps the wearer dry and warm, designed for activities in cold temperatures. There is a fleece interior for warmth and wicks away moisture at a rapid rate to promote warmth in cold temperatures. The exterior is extremely durable, but also perfect for layering.

As Summer passes and the ski season reemerges, give Patagonia your consideration when purchasing layers for next year.
