folcoachLight displays have become a popular holiday tradition around the country as families and institutions erect a wide variety of holiday light displays. Few, though, come anywhere close to the size and variety of the Winter Festival of Lights at the Oglebay Resort in West Virginia.

Covering more than 300 acres and over six miles of driving, this festival light display is one you are sure to remember!

What Is It?

The Winter Festival of Lights was begun in 1985 at the Oglebay Resort and it soon the rest of the city of Wheeling, West Virginia, joined in. AOL Travel has called this light display one of the ten best in the entire United States! More than one million lights are used throughout the displays and the organizers are working hard to convert them all to LED lights which will use 85% less energy.

A donation is requested for each car that drives through and one donation is valid through the entire season.

Good Zoo Lighting & Music Extravaganza

In addition to all the other light displays, the Good Zoo puts on its own show featuring displays of more than 35,000 lights choreographed to holiday music. The Good Zoo Lighting & Music Extravaganza was created by Carson Williams who became famous for creating a popular light show in Cincinnati, Ohio.

When Is it?

The Winter Festival of Lights takes place every year from early November through early January. This year it will be November 11, 2011 - January 8, 2012. You an view the lights Sundays through Thursdays until 10PM, Fridays and Saturdays until 11PM.
